The best color-themed wildflowers to grow

At Eden Brothers, we’re not too fond of lawns. Why would you surrender your premier real estate to something as monotonous as grass, when you could plant a wildflower meadow? After all, wildflower meadows create a habitat for pollinators and beneficial insects, and did we mention that they’re breathtakingly beautiful too?

Plant a pollinator-friendly wildflower meadow

Wouldn’t you love to have flowers in your favorite colors, all summer long? A wildflower meadow would make for the most gorgeous backdrop where you could take family photos, or it could serve as a private oasis to which you could escape when the remote office becomes too much to handle. You could lose a whole afternoon watching the bees and butterflies bustle and flit from one flower to the next, but that wouldn’t that be a worthy way to spend your precious time?

Growing colorful wildflowers just got easier

Planting a wildflower meadow is the easiest way to grow flowers from seed—it’s so simple. All you have to do is decide how much seed you need to fill your planting site, so calculate the square footage of the area and use the Coverage tab (you’ll find it beside the Planting Instructions tab) to determine exactly how much seed to buy.

When your wildflower seed arrives, you have the option to direct sow your seeds in either spring or fall. Some of these mixes contain a majority of annuals and are better suited to a spring planting, while fall sowing is ideal for perennial-heavy mixes. Either way, sowing wildflower seeds is simple—scatter the seeds over the planting area and gently press them into the earth. If your mix contains particularly small seeds, you can mix the seeds with sand to make the seeds easier to sow.

Water your seeds as you sow them, and water young seedlings weekly. Once established, wildflowers are drought tolerant and fairly self-sufficient, other than the occasional weed or pest check. Growing flowers is really that easy, and so incredibly rewarding.
