The best Midwest wildflower seed mixes

Brighten up your Midwest prairie town with one of Eden Brothers’ two exclusive wildflower mixes, Midwest All-Perennial Wildflower Seed Mix or the part-perennial Midwest Wildflower Seed Mix. Both mixes are rich with native wildflowers that thrive in the hot and humid Midwest summers and cold, snowy winters, and they contain more than 15 varieties each.

Easy to grow Midwest Wildflower Seed Mixes

Wildflower seeds are among the easiest flowers to grow. Unlike many specialty cut flowers, wildflowers prefer average to poor native soils that are well-draining. If possible, choose a planting site that receives full sun, or at least six hours of direct sunlight per day. Some wildflowers can tolerate less sunlight, but the blooming won’t be as early or as prolific.

Bare the ground for planting and sprinkle the wildflower seeds over the area—mix the seeds with sand or use a seed spreader to make the job easier. Gently press the seeds into the ground, deep enough to protect them from birds and wind but not so deep that the seeds won’t sprout. Water the seeds in, and wait a week or so for seedlings to pop up!

Wildflowers are very low maintenance once mature, so you’ll only need to weed and water the seedlings in their first few months of life. Once your wildflowers are established, regular rainfall should be plenty to keep them healthy, although you might still want to water the plants during periods of drought or intense heat.

Midwest Wildflower Seed Mixes attract native pollinators

Help protect native pollinators by planting a wildflower meadow with either Midwest Wildflower Seed Mix. Cultivate a home for solitary bees and migratory butterflies with either collection. Pollinators love the quick-growing annual flowers for their pollen and nectar-rich flowers, but perennial flowers are just as crucial for their long-lasting blooms and foliage that provide a space for pollinators to overwinter.

Planting a wildflower meadow is the perfect opportunity to introduce your children to monarch butterflies and carpenter bees. You might even see a ruby-throated hummingbird or two! Diversity is so important to nature, as are native flowering plants. Break up the monotony of a mono-cropped field with these specialty Midwest Wildflower Mixes.
