The best deer-resistant wildflower seed mixes
There’s hardly a worse feeling than when you realize that sometime in the night the local herd has tromped through your garden and munched down everything in sight. It’s an unfortunate coincidence of life that deer and gardeners often agree on what looks palatable and tastes amazing.
You could spray, and that would be a reasonable course of action. A fence would probably do one better but fences really limit what and where you can grow…but there is another option. Don’t fight the deer—grow plants that deer don’t particularly care for!
Keep deer—and rabbits—at bay with one of two exclusive Eden Brothers’ seed collections: the part annual, part perennial Deer Resistant Wildflower Seed Mix or Deer Resistant All Perennial Wildflower Seed Mix. Both mixes have between 13 and 15 wildflower species, so there’s great variety within each mix.
Plant a deer-resistant wildflower meadow for native pollinators
Save the bees by planting a deer-resistant wildflower meadow. Native pollinators feast on the nectar and pollen-rich flowers in these deer-resistant wildflower seed mixes, and the perennial plants provide habitat and a safe place for pollinators to overwinter.
Even if you intend to leave the majority of the flowers for the bees, you should definitely pick a few bouquets to enjoy yourself! Wildflower mixes are all the more prolific the more you pick, so don’t hold back.
Deer-resistant wildflower seed mixes are easy to grow and maintain
Sowing wildflower seeds is easy—simply scatter the seeds over the area to be seeded, and press the seeds gently into the soil to keep the seeds from being washed away or eaten. Direct sow wildflower seeds in spring or fall—either season is ideal for sowing perennial seeds and establishing blooms that will return year after year.
If possible, choose a location that receives full sun—either of these deer-resistant wildflower seed mixes will tolerate some partial shade, but you'll see more prolific blooming if the flowers get at least six hours of direct sunlight a day.
Weed wildflower seedlings when young, and water deeply and infrequently. Once wildflower seedlings mature, the flowers are fairly drought-tolerant and require very little maintenance. Sow these deer-resistant wildflower seeds once for recurring color season after season.
Not sure how many seeds you need? Use the Coverage tab at the bottom of each product page to determine approximately how much seed you’ll need to adequately cover your planting area. Buy your non-GMO deer-resistant wildflower seeds by the quarter pound or pound—but we recommend ordering a little extra! You can always put the leftover seeds towards next year’s garden or share your bounty with friends.
Don’t let the deer get you down—order your deer-resistant wildflower seed mixes today and cultivate a worry-free garden this season. Beginners and experienced gardeners alike can view complete planting instructions in our Wildflower Seeds Planting Guide.
