Collection: Ornamental Vegetables Seeds

While we think all vegetables are beautiful, we get especially excited about these ornamental treasures. Brassica-lovers will appreciate the tri-colored Ornamental Cabbage, and pepper fanatics will love our multi-colored Ornamental Pepper plants! Flowers are lovely, but they don’t always have to take center stage in the garden. Plant these decorative edibles in containers or in the field for a unique living botanical arrangement that your neighbors can’t help but notice.

Decorate your garden with the best ornamental vegetables

Flowers aren't the only way to add beauty to a space. At Eden Brothers, we think vegetables are just as beautiful, and we like to decorate our gardens with ornamental edibles. These varieties aren't our favorite varieties for eating, but they are palatable, most often used as garnishes. What they lack in flavor they make up for in color!

Ornamental Cabbages provide cool-season color

Decorative vegetables like ornamental cabbage, when planted in containers with other flowers, adds texture to living arrangements. This hybrid boasts striking purple and white rosette centers surrounded by green foliage. A Brassica through and through, ornamental cabbage doesn't tolerate summer heat but thrives in the shoulder seasons of spring and fall. Direct sow seeds in early spring for summer color or start seeds in midsummer for striking fall color.

Grow Ornamental Peppers for Pollinators

If you've always been mesmerized by pepper plants, then you need to grow ornamental peppers in your garden. These compact, bushy plants are perfect for container gardens and will thrive in either full sun or part shade. The branching stems adorned with miniature peppers add intrigue and interest to bouquets.

A hardy annual, ornamental peppers thrive in all USDA hardiness zones and are fairly drought tolerant. You might be tempted to cook with the colorful fruits, and while these tiny peppers are edible, they are typically very hot!

Ornamental peppers are a favorite among pollinators, so incorporate these festive plants throughout your vegetable garden to throw a pollinator party! Watch as the peppers change from green to red and purple, setting the perfect vibe for summer picnics and cookouts.

Great uses for decorative peppers

Decorative peppers are good for more than garden decor–harvest the miniature peppers and dry them, then grind them into a powder for effective natural pest repellent. Sprinkle the mixture at the base of your vulnerable plants, or make a homemade spray by stepping the spice in water and misting affected plant foliage.

Your dream garden begins with 100% pure seed

At Eden Brothers, we took the Safe Seed Pledge and made a commitment to always provide the highest quality seed to our customers. Whether you decide to plant ornamental cabbage or ornamental peppers, you can rest assured that your decorative vegetables will be the healthiest around. And should you decide to sample a few leaves or peppers, you can be confident that these plants didn't begin with chemically treated seed.

The beautiful thing about gardening is that your garden is yours—you get to make the call on what you grow. You don't have to grow all ornamentals or all edibles—you can blend the two for a garden that meets your needs and your preferences. Impress your neighbors and friends with these colorful and unique vegetables—but don't confuse these ornamentals with the more flavorful vegetables in your eating garden!
