Why statice is a flower-lover's favorite
- Ideal for long lasting dried flower arrangements
- Produces compact clusters of papery blooms
- Wonderful filler in floral bouquets
Planting Statice in your Garden
Statice has a charming wildflower appearance that makes it an ideal addition to rocky areas and garden borders. Its compact, papery blossoms perform nicely as a gorgeous container flower. This plant's adaptability makes it a valuable asset to any garden, and it's a low-maintenance annual that's eventually drought-tolerant, making it almost effortless to cultivate and maintain. Statice is an exceptionally long-lasting garden flower, cut flower, and is also just as beloved as a dried flower, able to keep its vibrant color much longer than most other flowers prized for their ability.
Numerous Benefits of Statice
Our current statice varieties of Limonium sinuatum blossom in their first year and possess several positive characteristics. They exhibit a high tolerance for frost, thriving a month before the last spring frost and continuing to bloom a month after the first fall frost. In addition, their broad, dense, and low foliage helps manage weed growth to the point of suffocating them. Next, the long stems sprout from the plant’s base and slowly unfurl their individual florets, allowing the grower a period of one week or more to harvest each bloom at its prime, unlike most cut flowers that require harvesting much more often to capture them at their peak. Statice also has no insect predators and requires only rich soil, full sun exposure, and adequate watering. From just a single planting, statice produces blooms over a period of months, resulting in a steady supply of blooms in the garden and for your vases.
Statice Care and Maintenance is Easy!
Once established, statice plants need minimal maintenance. Water deeply every 7 to 10 days, making sure the soil remains evenly moist but not waterlogged. Periodically, use a balanced, all-purpose fertilizer intended for flowers. If you are not harvesting flowers for cut arrangements, remove the faded blooms to stimulate new growth.
