How to Plant Toadflax
When to Plant Toadflax Seeds
Sow Toadflax seeds in the Spring, after the final frost, as soon as the soil is able to be worked, but is still cool to the touch. Toadflax can also be started indoors 6-8 weeks before the final frost date in Spring, after a 2-3 week period of cold stratification.
Where to Plant Toadflax Seeds
Toadflax does well in Full Sun or Partial Shade conditions, in light, sandy soil that is well-draining. Ideal soil temperatures will range from 55-65°F.
How to Plant Toadflax Seeds
Direct sow seeds onto the surface of the soil, and firmly compress. Do not cover the seeds, as Toadflax requires sunlight in order to germinate. Seeds will germinate in approximately 14-21 days.
How to Care for Toadflax
Once established, Toadflax is drought resistant and can thrive with very little care or maintenance. Toadflax will flower in Spring all the way through Fall, though will typically stop blooming during the hottest months. Toadflax will self-seed and propagate swiftly if left unattended. To prevent self-sowing, deadhead blooms as they begin to fade.
