Sure, everyone knows hyacinths are quite possibly the most fragrant flowers–but have you ever smelled hosta blooms? Or calla lilies? Some of the most unexpected ornamental plants smell the sweetest, once you take the time to notice. Be sure to order a few each of spring, summer, and fall bloomers so you can enjoy sweet-smelling flowers year round. Plant allium and hyacinth bulbs a few weeks before your expected first fall frost, and you’ll see (and smell) the colorful, fragrant flowers in mid to late spring.

For the most bloom time and the least amount of effort, consider planting re-blooming bearded irises. These deer-resistant, drought-tolerant plants will bloom twice a year–once in midsummer and again in fall. Plant reblooming bearded iris roots in late summer to give the plants time to establish before winter weather.
