When you order your flower bulbs, be sure to order a few extras, since you’re buying for more than just yourself, after all. Even if you plan on cutting most of your flowers, try to leave at least a few for the pollinators to enjoy.

Pollinators love annual flowers, but insects need somewhere to overwinter, too. Bushy plants like hostas provide habitat for pollinators through the cold winter months when little else is growing.

Pollinators love all flowers, but just like people, seem to have a special fondness for early spring flowers. Fall-planted bulbs are among the first to flower in spring, and these blooms are a vital food source for scarce spring nectar.

Tuck alliums and hyacinths into the garden before the first frost of fall, and by late spring your garden will be the local neighborhood pollinator hub.
