Collection: Green Wildflower Seed Mixes

As gardeners, we tend to love the color green. Symbolic of energy, growth, and health, green is always welcomed in the garden. Why not plant a field in green wildflowers? Green flowers are far from boring—while not as visually demanding as their colorful cousins, green wildflowers offer us a subtle kind of beauty, and the reminder that simple elegance is just as worthy as a showy display. Choose between two bicolored zinnia collections or Green With Envy Flower Mix for the greatest variety.

Green wildflowers are unique

If you have a taste for the rare and unusual, then these green wildflower mixes are for you. Green is a fairly uncommon color among wildflowers, compared to the much more popular reds, purples, and yellows. Green flowers are less likely to attract pollinators that prefer bright colors. One hypothesis for this phenomenon is that some insects have a harder time differentiating between the plants’ foliage and green flowers.

This doesn’t mean that green flowers don’t get pollinated—they do. Green wildflowers tend to attract beetles, flies, and nocturnal moths and bats, as their lighter hue stands out better in the late evening and early night hours. Bees and butterflies are the most commonly talked about pollinators, but there are others just as important. Planting a green wildflower meadow is the perfect way to protect other pollinators that are attracted to green flowers.

Green wildflowers make perfect cut flowers

Any one of our exclusive green wildflower mixes will draw the pollinators from miles around. Our Green With Envy Mix centers around Amaranth Green Thumb and Zinnia Envy, balancing these green beauties with white for a striking contrast in the garden. Green wildflowers that are mixed with other colors have no problem getting pollinated.

If you really love zinnias, consider planting one (or both) of our two green zinnia mixes, Christmas in July or Fresh Mix. Green flowers have become a trendy style for everything from weddings to proms. Even if green isn’t the focal color of your event, green flowers make the perfect accents to any cut flower bouquet or floral arrangement.

Green wildflowers are easy to grow and maintain

Why not turn your yard over to a green wildflower meadow? Wildflower meadows are incredibly easy to plant and add natural beauty to your home without all the added work of maintaining a lawn.

Before you get started, you’ll want to determine how much seed you’ll need. At Eden Brothers, we sell our green wildflower seed mixes by the packet or pound, so that you can be sure to have enough seed to fill your space. Use the Coverage tab to determine how much seed is recommended to fill your space, and be sure to order a little extra just in case!

Bare your planting site, and mix some compost into the soil for the healthiest plants. Wait until after your area's last frost date and direct seed your zinnia seeds in the ground. For ease of sowing, you can mix your wildflower seeds with sand and scatter the mixture over your planting area. Gently press the seeds into the ground, water lightly, and within a week or so your green wildflower seeds will start to germinate.

Trust us—once you see a green wildflower meadow in bloom you’ll be convinced that the absence of color is just as stunning as any other field of flowers. Your unique flower patch is sure to be the talk (and envy) of the town!
