After my roots got lost in the mail system and took 2 extra weeks to get delivered, I was reassured they should still be stable based on their appearance and per the directions had just enough time to plant them for this season. Sadly, nothing ever grew. The whole experience was incredibly disappointing and a waste of time and money. I used to love these flowers at my old house and was really looking forward to growing them again...

In Zone 6, late April through early May is generally a good time to plant Echinacea roots, although newly planted roots can be sensitive to drying out, excessive moisture, poor drainage, or being planted too deeply. For the best establishment, choose a location with at least six hours of direct sun and well-drained soil, positioning the crown at or just slightly below soil level and spreading the roots naturally beneath it. Keep the soil consistently moist but not saturated while new growth develops, and avoid heavy fertilization, as Echinacea generally performs well without rich soil. A light mulch can help maintain moisture, but it should be kept away from the crown to discourage rot. First-year plants may remain smaller while establishing their root systems, but roots that never produce any growth throughout the season are not the result we normally expect.
