Lupine Seeds - Russell Lupine
Perhaps the most commonly known and widely cultivated Lupine species, known for growing tall, lush spikes chock full of vividly colored flowers! Also known commonly as Garden Lupine, Lupinus polyphyllus is an early season perennial that may take a year after planting to offer its stunning blooms, but will reward a gardener's patience with abundant, colorful blooms!
*Seed scarification advised for lupine seeds (Nicking or scaring seeds with hard seed coatings before planting helps the seeds absorb water. After scarification, soak seeds in water overnight before planting. This will jump-start germination and get your garden growing faster.)

I followed the package instructions to the letter. Not one of the seeds germinated. Very disappointed.

Store owner replied: Hello Martha A. Thank you for sending in your experience and helping us get better results for our customers. We understand feeling disappointed after carefully follow the planting instructions and not see any germination. Russell Lupines prefer cooler conditions, so a late-May or early-June planting in Zone 7 can make germination and establishment more challenging as it warms up. Their naturally hard seed coat can also contribute to slow or uneven germination, and scarifying or soaking the seeds before sowing can help encourage moisture absorption. Earlier spring or fall planting is generally more favorable, along with well-draining soil and consistent moisture for your area. We reached out by email to offer help and a resolution but haven’t heard back yet. Please feel free to reply directly to our original email, as we stand behind our products and would be happy to help make this right!
Out of the whole seed packet only a couple sprouted and grew leaves. Not optimistic they will flower.

Store owner replied: Hello Tiny garden. Thank you for sharing your experience. Russell lupines can be somewhat slow and inconsistent to germinate, and they often focus on developing a strong root system during their first growing season. While some plants bloom the first year when started early and grown under ideal conditions, it is common for lupines grown from seed to produce mostly foliage initially and bloom more reliably in their second year. They perform best in full sun to light afternoon shade, well-drained soil, and consistent moisture during establishment. If the seedlings remain healthy, there is still a good chance they will continue to develop and reward you with blooms as they become established. We are glad we had the opportunity to provide a resolution because we always want our gardeners to be successful. If there's ever anything more we can do to help, our Customer Care team is always happy to assist!
All I had to do is place some seeds in my landscaping and little cover and they sprouted. Have my first flowers and I love them.

We purchases an oz of lupine seeds. They were delivered quickly and packaged nicely. We have scattered the seeds and there are several small plants already showing. Looking forward to the blooms next season. We will definitely purchase again from your company.
