Customer photo review of Papaver orientale Roots - Patty's Plum

I would recommend this product as the Patty's Plum is a beautiful color! I originally purchased them and planted them in the same way and only one out of all of them came up. I did the same thing a second time and you can see the results, they even bloomed in the controlled environment. They don't like a lot of water so I used the clay water spout to give them water when they want-not on a schedule. I also did the same thing with the Helen Elizabeth and they are all ready to be transplanted into the garden. They are not hard to grow but they are finicky with water.

Customer photo review of Papaver orientale Roots - Patty's Plum

I bought these in the fall of 2022, and could not have been more excited. The next spring, I saw the tiniest bit of green come up, some didn't appear to come up at all. Not a single bloom. I was so disappointed. Fast forward to this past spring, of 2024, and I had the most fabulous blooms. They coordinated so well with the other spring blooming plants I had, in particular the allium atropurpureum in my back garden, set off with the fresh green ferns coming up at the edge of the woods. Perfection. I love them so much, am ordering more. I know I may have to wait 2 years for a bloom. It will be worth it.

The flowers were a vague light mauve that very quickly turned brown. Further, two of the bulbs in the shipment were entirely different colors: One bloomed white with orange edging and the other bloomed coral pink. Both pretty but only the plum I ordered would have matched my garden color scheme! Really a confusing mess.

Store owner replied: Hello Melhalle. Thank you for your review. We are sorry to hear that your flowers did not bloom with the color you were expecting and that two of the bulbs appeared to be entirely different varieties. We understand how disappointing that is, especially when you've carefully planned your garden around a specific color palette. We have spoken to our growers who pre-pack them for us, so this doesn't happen again. We're pleased we had the opportunity to work with you and find a resolution. Thank you for bringing this to our attention, as reports like yours help us identify potential issues and work closely with our growers to maintain the quality and accuracy our customers expect. At Eden Brothers, we stand behind our products and truly appreciate the opportunity to make things right!

I planted these the day they came in the fall and followed instructions. I got two sets of greens that came up this spring and one set has already died back for no apparent reason. The other is not getting any blooms. Maybe something will still happen, but at this point I am not optimistic. I was really looking forward to these but it looks like it's going to be duds all around. I did have amazing success with 60 days of tulips on an unrelated note.
