Too much? Not enough? Take the guesswork out of watering with the Olla Watering Pot, a centuries-old irrigation solution that delivers moisture directly to thirsty roots. Made from natural, unglazed terracotta, this clever pot is buried up to its neck and filled with water. As the surrounding soil dries, moisture gradually seeps through the porous clay, providing a steady supply of water right where plants need it most. Simply check the water level and refill as needed. With less evaporation, runoff, and daily watering to worry about, it's a wonderfully simple way to conserve water while keeping your garden flourishing.

  • Grow thriving plants with less water, even through droughts
  • Great for gardens or garden areas that you cannot get to every day
  • Uses 50% to 70% less water than conventional watering

The Olla Company - Olla Watering Pot FAQs

How do I care for my Olla Watering Pot?

Before planting, soak your Olla in water for 15 minutes. Once buried, keep it filled regularly to prevent the terracotta from drying out and cracking. Remove it before freezing temperatures arrive. Between growing seasons, clean with a 1:1 mixture of water and vinegar, using a scrub brush to remove any attached roots or buildup. Store in a dry, sheltered location. With minimal care, your Olla can last for years!

What are the dimensions, and how much water do Olla Watering Pots hold?

Our Olla Watering Pots come in two sizes. The Small measures 5" x 7", holds 1 liter (1.06 quarts) of water, and irrigates an area up to 2 feet in diameter. The Large measures 7" x 9", holds 3 liters (3.17 quarts), and irrigates an area up to 3 feet in diameter.
