I bought a packet of these 2 years ago, and both last year and this year they grew like gangbusters, but there were absolutely no flowers and no pods. Great big green leaves and purple vines, but not a single bloom or even a hint of a bloom.

Started from seed into raised beds. Have 2 growing up trellises. No blooms yet but pretty leaves and they are growing like weeds. Hope to see blooms yet this summer!

This is a vigorous hearty vine that loves sun and tolerates partial shade. I’ll keep trying it each year in different places to see how many habitats I can get it to grow. Both hummingbirds and bees are enjoying it. Plant more seeds than you expect to get vines. My germination rate was about 60%. It has been a very hot and rainy summer so I have planted several times to keep it all fall.

This is sooo easy to grow! Needs plenty of sun and water, but you will have seeds every year! Self seeds or you can harvest these last fall pods and dry!

These are simple to grow given enough light and water, germinate easily, and our self seating even in zone five! Grown on trellises or supports, they create a beautiful tapestry of purple pods and wonderful legume flowers!

Bought seeds about 3 years ago and have planted them each year. This is my last try. Hugh leaves but no blooms or beans. I will purchase elsewhere and try again

I planted them in Michigan two weeks ago in a pot with a cloche on top of them. I see two sprouts but not sure if they’re the hyacinth vine.

Store owner replied: Hello Michelle. Thank you for sharing your experience with this seed. In cooler regions like Michigan, it’s not unusual for germination to take a little longer, even when using a cloche for added warmth. Early sprouts may or may not be the hyacinth vine yet, as warmer, protected soil can also encourage other fast-germinating seeds to emerge first. Hyacinth bean seedlings typically develop thicker stems and larger paired seed leaves as they grow, becoming easier to identify with a bit more time. Consistently warm soil, full sun, and evenly moist conditions generally provide the best germination results. We have not yet heard back from you, but we would still love the opportunity to help. This is so invasive that parts of Tennessee are buried in it. Please don't plant anymore

Absolutely lovely vine. Love it. Though an annual in Wisconsin I plant every year.

I have been careful of these seeds, but so far the germination rate has been disappointing. I hoped to plant the vines on my arbors and as the spill element in my urns, but I'll be fortunate to get two vines.

You neglected to say that the shelled green beans are edible and healthy, much like edamame. Great in stir fries and soups. I’ve been growing and eating them for years. (the black dried beans need to be boiled twice to eliminate the oxalates that can cause tummy ache, so I only use the plump green ones.) They germinate easily from seeds i save as well as “volunteers” that I dig up and space at 18”. They fill my 18 ft wide x 10 ft high trellis by midsummer, provide shade and privacy, and attract hummingirds like crazy. They are not invasive--they die at the frost, and squirrels don’t seem interested in taking or spreading them. But they will pop up in the lawn from dropped seeds. I just mow and the unwanted ones don’t hang around. Great plant! But please look for a variety that produces bigger beans.
