Customer photo review of Dahlia Tubers (Dinnerplate) - Penhill Watermelon

I just bought these dahlias and OT lilies. I ordered them separately so they came in their own box with a few days in between. In Both orders they arrived in terrible condition. Was very disappointed with this service, dahlias are what this website is KNOWN FOR so I would at least expect my box to arrive in the shape of a square Or a rectangle. One time is a freak accident, but twice is not acceptable, as I mentioned I also got OT lilies, the shipping showed no mercy, rather it arrived in worse condition. At least when it arrived at a distribution facility they covered it in tape. They used a different tape revealing how little quality put into preparing a package. Finally, I bought “two tubers” but in the process of shipping it broke up into about 8 “tubers”. All in all I am unsatisfied with the quality care that I received and am anticipating with hope a SINGLE sprout of dahlias.

The Dahlias ordered from Eden this year were horrible and none of them bloomed which is really just awful. One could understand if one did not bloom but when everything grows and nothing blooms something is radically wrong and I am not a novice gardener. I am an old lady who has been gardening for over 60 years and continue to keep two accounts professionally. Other Dahlias from other sources bloomed along with the ones that I ordered in 2022 from Eden, but nothing from them bloomed this year.

I wanted to try this plant last year, so i bought it during the sale, knowing that I was planting it late and would not get as many flowers, but it was worth a try. It never bloomed at all, but was in good shape when going into dormancy, so I waited. This year it came through for me and is a tall, stately plant in my cutting garden; so tall I took very long, first cuttings to balance it out a bit with neighboring dahlias. The flowers were nodding toward the ground, like sunflowers and I agree that they would be perfectly placed in the back of a border. I have only one complaint. The color isn't similar to any of the photos, but darker and each flower is less varied in color than these photos indicate. Still they make a big impression in a floral arrangement.

I usually choose a couple new varieties every year, and this was my pick for 2019. Upright growth (not bushy at all) with very large blooms that followed one after the other. Neighbors would often stop to comment. Recommend for back of your dahlia garden.
