Dahlia Imperialis enjoys a long, rich history as a part of dahlia royalty. Brought to Europe from Mexico in the 16th century, this variety boasts pendant, or nodding, style flowerheads with a single row of lavender/pink petals offset by its orange center. Dahlia Imperialis is considered a tree dahlia, as it can grow from 6 to 13 feet high bearing thick stems and large leaves. The height of this plant makes for an incredible border that will bloom well into October.

They sprouted for a couple months, and then just recently proceeded to wither and die. I wonder if it's dead for good, or if it merely retreated back to the bulb because of the Florida summer heat. I've liked my other Eden purchases so I hope this one will still come through
Store owner replied:
Hello Alexander Wehr. Thank you for sharing your experience with us. In Zone 10 Florida, it's quite possible that your Tree Dahlia retreated back to the tuber rather than dying completely. Young plants can sometimes struggle with intense summer heat, humidity, and weather stress before they have a chance to fully establish. If the tuber remains firm underground, there is a good chance it may re-sprout when temperatures become more favorable. We are glad to hear you've had success with your other Eden Brothers purchases, and we appreciate your patience with this variety. We also noticed that we never heard back from you regarding your concerns. If you're still having issues, please don't hesitate to reach out, as we're always happy to help and can provide a resolution if needed. We hope your Tree Dahlia surprises you with new growth in the coming months!
I ordered and planted The Dahlia tree in the spring. It’s a beautiful plant but no flowers. It’s in full sun has been very , but no flowers. Any advice for when I re plant next spring
My Dahlia tree was planted in two different locations, one grew over 8 feet tall but lost most of its leaves to what I believe was spider mites only got one bloom. The other one grew to about 5 feet but looked healthy and produced a few blooms. Hoping next year they will grow better and give more blooms as they looked beautiful! Zone 10a, south Cali.

Hello Jamie. Thank you for taking the time to write in a review. We are sorry yours never sprouted, and we appreciate you giving it the full growing season before sharing your experience. While Tree Dahlias can take several weeks to break dormancy, a spring-planted tuber in Zone 9 should have shown growth well before the end of the season. We also recognize that we received similar feedback from other gardeners, so these reports were taken seriously and reviewed by our Quality Control team. We've since worked directly with our grower to address the concerns reported with this variety for the upcoming season. We're glad we had the opportunity to provide a resolution and appreciate your willingness to consider trying again next year. We stand behind our products and are grateful for feedback like yours, which allows us to identify concerns, work with our growers, and continue improving the products we offer!
Wish it grew! It sprouted, and then no action. Other dahlias in the same bed thrived.

Hello Jenny. Thank you for taking the time to leave a review! We truly value your feedback and are always working to improve our products and planting information. These are known for their later blooming habits and can sometimes take longer to break dormancy compared to other varieties. When planted later in the season, it's not uncommon for them to focus on root development without showing significant top growth until the following year. We're happy that we were able to share some tips with you and come to a satisfactory resolution. We look forward to continuing gardening with you!
The bulbs never sprouted, thanks for asking. You can send me more

I was excited for this dahlia tree, unfortunately nothing has come of them, now the tulips I planted I am beyond pleased with. I have hope maybe in another year they will come up, but was disappointing for my first tuber purchase from EB.

We're always looking for ways to improve our products and service and will certainly take your information into account. They are known to take weeks to months longer to break dormancy. If you ever have any other concerns or questions, feel free to reach out to us and we'll be happy to do all we can to assist. Thanks again for your review and best wishes for your growing season!
Bought 2 but none grew. I have bought many tubers from Eden Brothers and all, except these, have done extremely well.

This dahlia did not grow. It remained a small sprout all season. It didn’t bloom. Other tuber purchases in the same environment thrived. This one is a dud.

These were the only dahlias which did not germinate. Instead they seemed to have rotted in the ground. Not sure if I was shipped defected products or if New Mexico’s late spring and regular watering did not agree with them. Very unfortunate.

I’m an experienced dahlia grower, checked these tubers before planting and they seemed to be in fine condition — now it’s 10 weeks later and they’ve still not sprouted in a location with 8-10 hours of sun.

Planted in. Two locations. Both locations did not flower and died. Looked like a weed for most of its life.

I sent this dahlia tree order to my son & his wife in Arkansas. They said it looked in pretty sad shape when it arrived, but they planted it next to their house anyway..
It never did anything.! They thought it was because their area has a lot of rain. Plus, the summer heat was warmer than usual. But, they left it where they planted it & are hoping that the roots will kick in this next Spring.
