Customer photo review of Cosmos Seeds - Seashells Mix

This is the second cosmos seed variety from Eden Brothers this season that is showing up very small and puny. The distinctive seashell shape is there, but i've gotten one tiny flower and very short plant. Again, hoping it improves as I cut and the season continues, I've just never had cosmos plants look so sad

    Cosmos Seeds - Seashells Mix

Store owner replied: Hello Erin. Thank you for sharing an update on your Seashells Mix Cosmos. We are glad to hear that you're seeing the distinctive tubular, seashell-shaped petals characteristic of this variety, but we understand your disappointment with the smaller flowers and shorter plants. Cosmos are typically vigorous growers, although plant height and bloom size can be affected by periods of extreme heat, inconsistent moisture, crowding, or other environmental stresses, and individual varieties can respond somewhat differently even when they're growing in the same garden. Cutting and deadheading can encourage additional branching and flower production, so there is still an opportunity for the plants to become fuller and produce more blooms as the season continues. Since you've also noticed that some of your other cosmos are growing more vigorously under similar conditions, we appreciate you sharing that comparison with us. We are happy we could work with you on a resolution and truly value the opportunity to support your garden. We hope the remainder of the season brings stronger growth and plenty more of those unique Seashells blooms!

Planted in spring 2018 in zone 8; they bloomed earlier than the other cosmos varieties I planted, which was nice. They are very delicate and unusual. Will order more for this year.
