Native to the prairies, savannas, and open woodlands of the eastern and midwestern United States, Pale Purple Coneflower is a hardy perennial prized for its graceful, drooping petals and exceptional resilience. Tolerating drought, heat, humidity, and poor soils with ease, this wildlife magnet offers vital nectar and pollen for bumblebees, hummingbirds, and butterflies. It is also a critical larval host plant for the declining Ottoe-skipper butterfly. Leaving the spent seed heads intact through autumn and winter provides an excellent food source for goldfinches and songbirds.

  • Coarse, hairy stems and foliage make it naturally deer and rabbit resistant
  • Often found in limestone glades, oak savannas, fields, prairies, and along railroads
  • Readily self-seeds if spent blooms are left in place
