Customer photo review of Astilbe Roots - Diamant

Received Lilly of the Valley and Astilbe roots, which I planted outdoors in early April. Lilly of the Valley has exploded but the Astilbe is still stuck at two little green leafs. No growth since mid April (it's now mid June). I amended the soil with a few gallons of compost and potting soil.

Store owner replied: Hello Sam. Thank you for your review of Eden Brothers! We greatly appreciate you bringing this to our attention. It's so important to have feedback like this so we can continually improve our products and planting expectations. Astilbe can be very slow to establish, especially in the first season. Even with compost and good soil, it's common for them to produce only a few leaves and then seem to stall. Factors like cool spring temps, partial shade, or even just the plant focusing on root development can delay visible growth. As long as the leaves are healthy and not yellowing or wilted, your Astilbe is likely just settling in. After speaking with our Customer Service Team, it seems we were able to help you further. Thanks for your time in sharing your experience with us and keep us posted if things don't change!

Ordered and planted 6 roots last spring. Only half of them ever grew, this spring it looks like I might only have one serviver. All were planted in the same conditions so I'm not sure what some didn't make it.

These never took off for me. They are still in the ground and I am hoping that they will come back next spring but am not very hopeful.

I've never grown bare roots before, but these worked great. Very few things grow well in our shaded back garden. They withstood a late frost that we had, and within 2 weeks had grown into little groups of seedlings. Haven't flowered yet (still too early) but so far I am super impressed with the hardiness of the bare roots that shipped, and the vigor with which they grew. They all look big, with multiple shoots, and I'm excited to see what brightness they can add in our shaded container garden.
