Product Description

The Scarlet Emperor Runner Bean is a delicious legume with flower power to boot! You will notice that your Scarlet Emperor Runner Beans grow in a slightly fuzzy, 6 to 8 inch pod, and they have a richer, more intense flavor than snap beans. Scarlet Emperor Runner Beans are an heirloom bean seed whose plant produces bunches of scarlet-orange flowers. This is even more impressive when you consider that the Scarlet Emperor Runner Bean can grow to a remarkable 10 feet in height! Pole and Runner Bean Planting Guide

A great choice for any level of vegetable gardener; it only takes about 60 days for your pole or runner beans to go from seeds to table.

Pole and runner bean plants grow bigger than their bush bean cousins, so they need more space. Pole and runner bean seeds need 3 feet (91cm) between rows and 7 to 12 inches (18 to 33cm) between plants.

If you want your pole or runner bean plants to vine up a tepee-shaped support, dig holes in the corners of a 3 foot square (91cm), and plant 3 pole bean seeds in each. Maypoles, arches and natural supports, such as sweet corn, are often used to support the vines of pole and runner beans.

Pole and runner bean seeds should be planted 1 inch (2.5cm) deep in clay soil and 1.5 inches (3.75cm) deep in sandy soils. Pole bean seeds need soil temperatures to reach 65F (18C) to sprout reliably. Runner beans typically grow better in colder areas than pole or bush beans.
