Sowing wildflower seeds is so easy—it’s a fantastic project for kids, too. Perennial wildflower mixes can be sown in either spring or fall, so do whatever works for you. Either way, you’ll have flowers return year after year for seasons to come.

Sowing perennial wildflower seeds is easy

First, choose a planting site with good drainage that gets partial to full sun. Sprinkle the wildflower seeds by hand, or use a seed spreader for more even coverage. Gently press the seeds into the soil and carefully water the area. Within a week or two your wildflower seeds will sprout!

Weed wildflower seedlings once or twice—until the plants are big enough to outcompete weeds. Water during heatwaves and dry periods, but otherwise perennial wildflowers are very self-sufficient. Many of the perennial wildflowers in our seed mixes are native plants that tolerate temperate climates and local pest pressure without problem.
