    How to Plant Painted Tongue

When to Plant Painted Tongue Seeds

Can start indoors 6 weeks before last frost, or direct sow in spring after last frosts.

Where to Plant Painted Tongue Seeds

Painted Tongues thrive in partial shade but can survive with full sun if in cooler climates. Choose a spot that has well-draining soil.

How to Plant Painted Tongue Seeds

Plant 1/4 inch deep in full sun for summer/fall bloom. Space plants 9-12 inches apart with 3-4 seeds per space. These seeds need darkness to germinate so make sure you cover the seeds until sprouts begin. Water regularly at first in well-drained soil.

When transplanting, make sure danger of frost has passed and protect it from high winds.

How to Care for Painted Tongue

Once roots have been established, place mulch around base to keep the root system cool. When plant is young, pinch back growth for a bushy plant. Deadhead blooms to promote new growth. Keep well watered, especially during hot or dry periods.
