Collection: Organic Celery Seeds

Organic celery has broad, green parsley-like leaves and thick, crisp stalks that grow to a height of six to eighteen inches. Straight, compact, parallel bundles of these stems develop into green foliage. Snack on the stalks or use them in stews, salads, and other dishes. The leaves can also be used in cooking or to make oils that are beneficial to health ailments and general health, such as celery salt.

The best organic celery for an abundant harvest

Celery oil and juice, produced from the seeds and stalks, have been used to cure anything from joint pain, gout, and hysteria, to anxiety, migraines, and weight loss, for ages. Organic celery is a culinary powerhouse in both cooked and raw meals, in addition to these treatments. Celery is a must-have in soups, stir fries, and salads because of its wonderful scent and nutty, earthy flavor.

Celery is said to have been initially grown in the Mediterranean Sea marshes and later cultivated by the Greeks between 450 and 600 BC. Celery is readily available in supermarkets and markets nowadays, but why not try growing this crisp, juicy vegetable in your own yard for easy home-grown meals and snacking?

How to start organic celery seeds

Start your seeds indoors, using a germination mat, at least eight to ten weeks before the last frost date in cooler planting zones. Start your organic celery seeds in the fall during warm weather if you live in a warmer climate. Celery seeds thrive in full light and well-drained soil. Sow celery seeds in separate pots, putting as few seeds as possible in each one. Cover with a light layer of soil, no more than 1/4 inch thick. Germination takes roughly 18 days on average. Before transferring seedlings outside, allow them to harden off for seven to ten days. After the last frost date, transplant organic celery plants outside, spacing them 12 to 18 inches apart in rows 24 inches apart.

How to harvest organic celery

Around your organic celery plants, add compost and mulch. Harvest celery stalks from the outside in when they are about eight inches tall, taking only a few at a time seeing as celery is a cut-and-come-again crop. Trim any extra leaves and stiff, outer stems one to two inches from the ground. Refrigerate your organic celery until ready to eat, or eat it right away!

Tips for storing organic celery

If you want to keep your organic celery in the fridge, either totally submerge the stalks in water or leave the tips sticking out. You can also wrap the clipped stems in a moist towel and cover them with aluminum foil. Your celery stalks can keep their fresh crunch for up to two weeks if you use these methods.
