How to Plant Dry Area Mix

    When to Plant Wildflowers

For Spring planting, it is best carried out within a month or so after the final frost of the winter season. It is important to not plant too early; if seeds are installed prior to a late-season frost, they will be lost for the season and will need to be are-seeded.

For Fall planting, make sure you plant the seeds after the first killing frost to eliminate any chance of germination. Planting in the Fall gives you a jump start on Spring blooms

    Where to Plant Wildflowers

Though many wildflowers do tolerate some filtered shade, and a few actually thrive in it. The vast majority are definitely sun-lovers. Wildflowers will generally sprout in all but the most difficult conditions. This means that pampering your site with fertilizer or rich sod is not usually necessary.

    How to Plant Wildflowers

Clear the area and work the soil as best you can before planting your seeds. Don't panic when some weeds sprout along with the flowers, this will happen when the soil is worked.

We recommend mixing your seeds with sand - 5 parts sand to 1 part seeds. This allows for a more even distribution and also provides a convenient way to mark which portions of the site have been seeded and which have not. For a smaller area, you can hand-broadcast the seeds. For larger areas, we recommend a seed spreader to create a better cast of the seeds.

After the seeds have been sown, lightly compress the seeds into the soil about 1/2" to protect from birds and wind.

    How to Care for Wildflowers

Although Wildflowers are pretty easy to take care of, there are some steps to keep it looking beautiful. Regularly weed to ensure your wildflowers are getting the nutrients they need. Water your plants during dry spells. Deadhead blooms that are spend to encourage new growth.

Dry Area Wildflower Mix

My husband bought the mix for dry areas so we wouldn't need to water as much. Incredible. My husband tilled the soil and threw out the seeds. I have never seen such incredible blooms in my life. We are planting twice as much next year. The plants are over four feet tall and the blooms are incredible. I have never been more impressed with a purchase for our garden. I plan on purchasing several different items next year. Thanks for adding so much beauty to our yard.

Amazing flowers!

I winter sowed these onto snow in January in an area that has dry, compacted soil. These flowers came up thick and tall! They give the soil the coverage it needs to hold onto moisture and keep the puncture vine at bay! I'll be buying again in the fall.

I have an apiary on my ranch and my goats eat most all of the wildflowers. So I have a fenced area with a small garden and orchard. I bought both this mix last fall and ran a plow around the inside of the fence and sprinkled these seeds in the furrow along with the Dry area mix. This spring I had a dense profusion of every kind of wildflower and the flowers lasted into July. We had a rainy spring and I'm sure that helped, but the mix worked wonderfully.

Wildflowers galore

These wildflower seeds are terrific, Germination in four days and last year we had two separate flowerings, early spring and late summer.
The mix is amazing; plants are quite high so one needs to plant with that in mind. Some were 2 feet tall but the Californian Poppies are much shorter. This year I ordered Poppies separately and they also germinated very quickly. We have had a very dry spring and almost no winter rain so I have watered the seed beds every three days. Hence the amazing germination rate.

Beautiful Wildflower Field

We wanted you to know that our 2lb(?),maybe more of wildflowers for dry areas is absolutely gorgeous! Neighbors rave, gardeners rave, but mainly we are so inspired what that little bag of wildflowers has brought such joy to us...and the hummingbirds. My sweet husband did the scraping away of the icky dirt areas, added some top soil, mixed the seeds in with some mulch and we casted them about. We were impatient at first, but voila,1 then 3 then 8 and more colors and varieties than you can count. We thank you and hold onto a BIGGER BAG for next year.
