Mache Seeds

When to Plant Mache Seeds

Due to their cold-tolerant nature, Corn Salad seeds are best sowed in the early Fall in warmer climates, and are best sowed once the soil is workable in late Winter or early Spring in colder climates. Corn salad is very cold resistant, and with proper establishment it can resist temperatures as low as 10°F, so long as the roots are properly insulated by mulch.

Where to Plant Mache Seeds

Full sun (6-8 hours of sun per day) is required to grow Corn Salad properly, and it grows best when sown in loamy soils that are rich in nutrients.

How to Plant Mache Seeds

Once soil temperatures reach between 50°F and 70°F, broadcast the seed into the garden and lightly cover up to 1/4th of an inch deep. Keep the soils moist as the germination process happens, and thin out seedlings to be 3-6 inches apart. Continue to plant in this manner every 10-14 days in the Spring to prolong your harvesting season.

How to Harvest Mache

Harvest individual leaves as they reach a desired size. Harvest the entire plant as soon as it begins to develop a flower head, failure to do so may result in overly bitter or inedible leaves. Leave the roots in the ground to produce more leaves to harvest.
