Mountain Garland, sometimes known as Godetia or Clarkia, is a native California wildflower. It's gorgeous and delicate blooms explode with color throughout the spring and summer. These flowers may reach a height of 22 inches and come in pink, white, red, and purple colors. These blossoms are ideal for use in beds, borders, container or patio gardens, as well as cut flower gardens! Not only will heirloom godetia attract butterflies and other pollinators, but these lovely blooms are also deer resistant, so maintaining their bright beauty is simple. The godetia flower is thought to be a sign of joy and enchantment.

Heirloom godetia seedlings require average (not too rich) soil that drains well. They prefer full light but can take partial shade. Consider your planting location as well as the weather in your area, as heirloom godetia does not thrive in hot, humid environments.

If you live in zones 8 through 10, you can direct sow your seeds in the early spring or sow them in the fall. If you are planting in any other zone, we suggest planting in early spring. Because these seeds require sunshine to germinate, they like to be sown densely, without being covered. Water on a regular basis. Thin seedlings to four to six inches apart once they have germinated. Heirloom godetia flowers are fast-growing and should bloom in 90 days, usually in June or July.

Heirloom godetia plants are drought resilient once established and do not require fertilizer. Because the stems might become brittle over time, staking may be necessary. While godetia is often pest-free, keep an eye out for foot and stem rot near the plant's base. Keep in mind that once sown, heirloom godetia flowers self-seed and will return year after year. Remove the leaves off the stems and hang upside down in a dark, well-ventilated room if utilizing your blossoms as cut flowers. Heirloom godetia blossoms have a vase life of five to ten days.

Pansy, snapdragon, sage, columbine, and poppy are all good companion plants for heirloom godetia.
